Night Scented Stock
Matthiola longipetala ssp. bicornis. Annual 6"-12".
Perfume Plant. A delight of the evening garden, small flowers in lilac shades have a heady fragrance at night. Plant Night Scented Stock near the house or sow a few seeds in mixed containers to enjoy the fragrance on your deck or patio. Blooms June to September. Make repeat plantings about 6 weeks apart for maximum flowering.
Planting Directions: Sow seeds in spring or early summer where they are to grow in well prepared soil, and in a sunny or partly shaded location. Spread the seeds over the surface and press down well. Germination takes 10-18 days with light and temperatures of 55°-65° . Thin plants to 4-6” apart. Stock likes moist, well-drained, very fertile soil. Pinch out lateral shoots to produce taller specimens and keep plants somewhat crowded to induce earlier blooming.
