Eupatorium purpureum. Perennial. 7'-9'.
Purple boneset, Queen-of-the-Meadow. Bears pink to rose purple, vanilla scented flowers in large, open clusters. Good background plant. Likes light, moist,well-drained soil in a sunny spot. Excellent cut flowers. Easy culture. Pink flowers in late season call out to all bees in the area.
Planting Directions: Sow seeds in moist seed starting mix, press seeds into mix maintain soil temperature of 64°-72° for 2 to 4 weeks. Chill seeds for 4 to 6 weeks at temperatures of 25°-40°. If outdoor temperatures are too warm, cover seed with plastic and place in refrigerator maintaining evenly moist soil. (During this chilling period a hormone is produced within the seed that aids germination). After this chilling period move to a cool area, 47°-58° where germination will occur. When first set of true leaves appear transplant to individual pots. Transplant to garden when seedlings are 6-8” tall, spacing plants 2-3 feet apart. Water moderate for the first year, after which less water is required
