- These waxy bitter fruits are an important accent flavor in Chinese cuisine. The key to proper preparation is to blanch for 2 to 3 minutes so that the bitter flavor can gently enhance the taste of the other foods in the dish.
- Plants are very rambling vines, small leaved and will screen a trellis or arbor.
- Harvest Chinese Bitter Melon when green to yellow and firm.
Planting Directions: Sow seed in spring when the ground is warm, 60°minimum, 95° maximum, and all danger of frost has past. Plant 6-8 seeds 1” deep in hills that are spaced 4’ apart. Thin plants leaving the 3 strongest in each hill. Well rotted manure mixed into bottom of each hill will stimulate growth and increase yield. Plant in full sun.
