  • Alfalfa is excellent for nitrogen fixing. Deep rooted and drought-tolerant. Needs warm weather to germinate, August plantings recommended. Excellent choice for well-drained soil that is sitting unused for a period of time as hay can be harvested for several years and the crop can be plowed under in fall or spring.
